Paralegal

As Georgia’s longest-running post-baccalaureate paralegal program, Emory Continuing Education (ECE)'s Paralegal Certificate Program prepares college graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the legal profession. Our comprehensive program — taught by licensed attorneys — consists of multiple core and elective courses totaling more than 100 classroom hours. Students will learn about state and federal court systems while conducting research, writing memos, and creating discovery documents. Areas of study also include attorney/paralegal ethics, contracts, and additional legal terms and court procedures. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in customary law office tasks under the supervision of an attorney.

Contract Law

Contract Law

This course will provide an introduction to basic contract law, including the Uniform Commercial Code. Specifically, the course will provide an introduction to the requirements for an enforceable contract, contract performance and remedies available upon the breach of a contract. Emphasis will be placed on practical drafting and analysis.

The objective of this e-discovery course is to introduce the complexities and challenges of electronic discovery to participants so that they will be able to apply industry best practices for managing e-discovery projects.

Family Law

Family Law

This course will introduce students to the areas of family law including: marriage, pre-nuptial agreements, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Students will create all forms required for a GA divorce.

Immigration Law

Immigration Law

This course provides paralegal students with the terms, concepts, and practical applications of family, employment and litigation-based immigration law. Topics include client intake and database/case management, as well as highly pertinent humanitarian/immigration issues such as U visas for trafficking victims and refugee/asylum law.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property

An examination of the four major areas of intellectual property law: trademark, copyright, patent, and trade secret. Related topics including trade names, restrictive covenants and social media may be addressed. The course will provide students with a conceptual background and practical skills.
