Engage in effective self-advocacy

To move up in your workplace, make a career transition, or simply do a better job of promoting your business skills and talents, you need to engage in effective self-advocacy. In this course, you will learn how to effectively share with others what you've already accomplished so that you can advance your career. This course is designed to teach professionals how to identify their professional strengths and to communicate their unique worth to employers and stakeholders. You'll learn how to select themes that will persuade others—in resumes, cover letters, and self-evaluations—and in conversations about your accomplishments and value.

Learner Outcomes

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
 
  • Identify and be able to clearly articulate and support their unique professional strengths, interests, and values to current and prospective employers
  • Read job postings and accurately identify hiring employers priorities for specific roles
  • Confidently communicate which skills and strengths that the participant possesses that prospective and current employers seek for specific roles or projects, and why s/he is a strong candidate for a new position/role/project
  • Create a strong, tailored resume for jobs and employers in any industry
  • Create a strong, tailored cover letter for jobs and employers in any industry
  • Clearly communicate the value they've contributed to their current employers in self-evaluations and effectively negotiate for promotions and/or raises
