Karen  Van der Vort

Karen has 35+ years of wine-making, grape-growing and wine education experience. She started a Chateau St. Jean in 1977 working with Richard Arrowood. An opportunity to learn about grapegrowing emerged with a position at DeLoach Vineyards and Winery where she became the vineyard manager and assistant winemaker to Cecil DeLoach. At Mark West, she had the opportunity to make her first champagne and after winning numerous awards decided to begin an education in viticulture and enology at CSU Fresno and UC Davis. In 1999, Karen was inducted to the Women for Winesense Hall of Fame for her contribution to the creativity and enjoyment of wine. Since moving to the east coast, she has made wine and planted vineyards and is here to give you her passion and knowledge to create a style all your own.
