Biography

John  BuggeJohn is a Professor Emeritus of English and the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Emory University Emeritus College. He retired in September of 2011 from the Department of English at Emory, having been its principal specialist in medieval English literature for over four decades. He inaugurated the English Department course in Arthurian literature and made it a permanent part of the curriculum in the 1980s. His other teaching and research in the medieval field has involved the Old English language, Beowulf and other works of Old English poetry and prose, and Middle English literature ranging from devotional pieces written for women to Chaucer, the Pearl poet, and Malory.
