I wanted to send you a thank you email/update for the class I took last year in October 2015.

I truly believe things happen for a reason. At the time of the class, I was working for a company where I was considered the food girl. I knew I had way more dreams and aspirations than just being someone's lunch assistant.

I didn't think it was possible -- I'm a single-parent mom with two kids. However, I wanted to show my girls to go after your dreams and to be all that you can be. I felt stress -- not only because I wanted an awesome grade, but also because I knew this would be my dream career. I was so happy my oldest daughter could see me graduate. I felt like it helped her understand why some days mommy is a little stressed, because I'm trying to make a change in my life.

Fast forward to February 2016: I start the process on purchasing my first home and my company did a reorganization, and they had to let me go. I was sad, but I was also so thrilled because it was the push I needed to go after my dreams -- a career, and not just a job.

I decided to get out and go door to door to all of the rental tent companies, catering companies and event companies. I was willing to do anything I could to get my foot in the door, including volunteer work.

The day I closed on my home, I had the interview of a lifetime for an Event Coordinator job. I was so nervous that they wouldn't hire me because I didn't have the design training, nor had I ever worked for an event planning company. I showed the HR director my capstone and she thought it was great. I used my capstone for my next round of interviews with the design GM and owner of the company. I landed the job and signed an offer letter in March.

THANK YOU for helping me believe in myself. Taking the class at Emory allowed me to show a finished product, and I was able to learn a great deal about the industry. I have the confidence to say YES, this is the industry I want to be in and YES, I want this career. I was willing to volunteer, I went door to door and I was so proud to tell my girls that dreams really do come true -- but you have to have faith and go after what you want!

"The event planning program was a great continuing education opportunity.  The program provided me an opportunity to receive formal training to compliment the professional experience I have received from previous jobs. I started my own wedding and event planning business prior to the class and I am using the knowledge I have gained from the class to further grow my business."

"THANK YOU again for the incredible learning experience I received in this class. My program directors are so engaged with our upcoming November conference based off of the feedback I gave them from my course."
