Learn more about the Emory Six Sigma Program

The Emory Six Sigma Certificate Program

The Six Sigma Certificate Programs are non-credit certifications offered by Emory University's Professional Learning Programs. Six Sigma methodologies strive to eliminate defects in processes that lead to customer dissatisfaction. These basic principles allow Six Sigma professionals to work in a variety of industries including (but not limited to) business, manufacturing, or even healthcare.  As a Certified Six Sigma professional you are qualified to implement, lead and carry out Six Sigma initiatives. Our blended learning approach includes both online and classroom education to help you learn more effectively.

Green Belt vs. Black Belt: Which Belt is right for you?

Curriculum Overview

The two primary certifications are Green Belt and Black Belt, and each differs in certification requirements, responsibility, income opportunity, cost and recognition.
The Emory Six Sigma Green Belt includes approximately 12 hours of online study and 24 hours (4 days) in the classroom. Courses are packed with applied exercises and real-world case studies designed to simulate the steps you would take in a real-world Six Sigma project, thereby improving your learning experience. As a Green Belt candidate you will need to be able to demonstrate your understanding of Six Sigma processes and tools and pass Emory’s Green Belt certification exam before you are ready to advance to the Black Belt Level.

The Emory Six Sigma Black Belt includes approximately 21 hours of online study and 56 hours (7 days) in the classroom. In addition, you are required to develop and complete an independent project based on a real business challenge. To obtain an Emory Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate, you will need to complete all online and in class coursework, an individual project and pass Emory’s Black Belt black belt exam with a with a minimum score of 75 percent.

*Emory requires a Green Belt Certification in order to enroll in the Black Belt Certificate Program

**All Black Belt students are required to bring a laptop to class. Black Belt students must also provide their own project.

Certificate Recognition in the Business World

Many companies recognize the value of having Green Belts on their staff. However becoming a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt makes you part of an elite group of highly sought after and respected business professionals.

In addition, Six Sigma certifications are not regulated by any certifying body (i.e. as PMI is the certifying body for the PMP certification); making the reputation of the program you are certified by more important. Emory University is widely recognized as a prestigious university around the world.
