| New Emory University Tobacco Policy |
| Emory University became tobacco-free on Jan. 1, 2012.
This policy applies to faculty, staff, students, contractors, vendors and visitors. The use of tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, clove cigarettes and e-cigarettes, is not permitted on any university-owned or leased property, which includes but is not limited to, buildings, university grounds, parking areas, walkways, recreational and sporting facilities and university-owned vehicles. This prohibition includes smoking in personal vehicles parked on university grounds. To ease the transition to a tobacco-free environment, signage will direct current smokers to a temporary smoking zone located next to Building B on Briarcliff Campus. Smoking will not be allowed at ECE's Alpharetta and Decatur facilities, unless otherwise noted by the building's individual policies. The Tobacco-Free Environment Initiative, approved by the President's Cabinet and endorsed by the University Senate, will have positive long-term health benefits for our faculty, staff, students and visitors. The Tobacco-Free policy is available on the University Policy website: Policy 4.113 and Policy 8.10. |
