Students will customize their workbooks through more functions, such as If . .. Then . . . Else and Data Validation, learn more functions, collaborate with other users, and enhance their spreadsheets using charts.

This class is taught using Microsoft Excel 2010 on our lab PCs, but the content applies to Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016 for Windows. Material learned in this course may not apply to Excel for Mac.

    Lesson 1: Enhancing the Excel Database and Tracking systems with Data Validation
  • Adding Data Validation Criteria, Message boxes, and restrictions to the database and worksheets
  • Creating Drop Down Lists and customizing lists for ease of input and selection

    Lesson 2: Favorite Functions and Functionality
  • VLOOKUP and IFERROR function review and more
  • Date Calculations for Age and Service as well as Time Frame formulas for Warranty expirations, shipping, inventory and other date functionality using the Today() and Year() functions
  • Concatenation Review – joining multiple columns and data into one column using the Concatenate() function
  • DSUM, DAVERAGE, and DCOUNT – Database functions based on criteria
  • If Then Else – Simple and complex If Then Else functions
  • Text to Columns – splitting one column of data into multiple columns of data

  • Understanding Password protection
  • Protecting your Worksheets
  • Protecting your Workbook
  • Allow certain areas of your workbook for updating/input but restricting other areas
  • Sharing Your Workbook

    Lesson 4: More PivotTables and Customization
  • Marketing, HR, Sales, Operations and other analytical PivotTables
  • Creating Custom Calculations for PivotTables
  • Using the GetPivotData function and functionality

    Lesson 5: Charts – Part 2
  • Creating Comparative Data Charts
  • Formatting Charts
  • Modifying and Customizing Chart Items
  • Examine Bar, Column, Area, Line, and other charts
  • Creating a Trend Line
