    1. The Overall Picture
  • (following class preliminaries) Discuss types of careers and what is expected for different roles regarding specific technology and processes to learn
  • Introduce the technology used (HTML4/5, CSS, PHP, MYSQL, Javascript, database-driven sites, etc.)
  • Discuss the design studio (equipment, software, etc.)
  • Present the software
  • Discuss color, type, images/media and layout — how to develop this basic creative toolkit

    2. Workflow That Works
  • Using the textbook to illustrate the core process then break the class into groups to take on a case study each:
  • defining the project
  • developing site structure
  • designing the visual interface
  • building and integrating
  • launching and beyond (delivery, launch, maintenance, focus groups and SEO)

    3. Business Setup and Resources
  • Using the textbook, sect. 10, as a guide, discuss strategies on how to analyze the competition and what role that plays in the planning
  • Discuss options to consider when choosing the right hosting package and walk through a few online companies and their offerings
  • Discuss the process of selecting an effective domain name and walkthrough the process online
  • You’ve addressed SEO in the previous section, but here discuss the initial setup for registering your Web site on search engines, showing online examples including discussion of Google Analytics
  • Discuss what we mean by “content,” and where to find image, video and audio using online examples for different sources, as well as discussion of how to generate media yourself
  • Discuss potential revenue streams such as affiliate programs, advertising
  • Discuss strategies for e-commerce

    4. New Media and Finishing Touches
  • Review the various social media sources and discuss not only how to utilize them, but how to specifically interface your site with them
