Paralegal Core Courses

This catalog lists the upcoming sections of the core courses in the Paralegal certificate program. Students must complete each of these four courses, two electives, and two professional development seminars to earn the Paralegal Certificate.

Contract Law

This course is required to complete the Paralegal Certificate and is offered multiple times throughout the year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

This course will provide an introduction to basic contract law, including the Uniform Commercial Code. Specifically, the course will provide an introduction to the requirements for an enforceable contract, contract performance and remedies available upon the breach of a contract. Emphasis will be placed on practical drafting and analysis. Completion of this course is required to obtain the Paralegal Certificate.

  • Understand how contracts might be modified by the parties
  • Recognize when a party commits a breach of contract
  • Analyze available contract remedies

Introduction to Law

This course is required to complete the Paralegal Certificate and is offered multiple times throughout the year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

This course provides the foundation for understanding the legal system, court structure, and attorney/paralegal ethics. Completion of this course is required to obtain the Paralegal Certificate.

Civil Litigation

This course is required to complete the Paralegal Certificate and is offered multiple times throughout the year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

This class prepares graduates to work within the Georgia legal environment. Note that Georgia’s legal system is similar to many other states, so much of this knowledge is applicable outside of Georgia. Completion of this course is required to obtain the Paralegal Certificate.

This course is required to complete the Paralegal Certificate and is offered multiple times throughout the year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

This course provides the foundation for finding legal authority, conducting legal analysis, and writing basic legal memoranda.

  • conduct online research using Westlaw software
  • use proper Bluebook citation format for both primary and secondary legal authority
  • research primary authority and conduct legal analysis based on a given fact pattern
