Event Planning Certificate - Online

The online format of the Event Planning Certificate meets weekly in an online classroom and additional course materials are available to you on demand in the Blackboard learning environment. During the sixth week, there is a full-day in-class session.

Special Event production is a blend of art and science. You'll study both as you explore the aesthetic details which make events sparkle, and the behind-the-scenes logistics which make the events safe and functional. This program will help you stay on top of the latest trends and technologies as well as the latest ways to make your events environmentally responsible. After completing this program you will be able to:

  • Create high quality events and explore options for gaining event planning experience.
  • Develop effective event objectives and build a timeline, budget, and program to meet those goals.
  • Design event invitation/marketing materials.
  • Solve event logistical issues (parking, safety, security) while encouraging "green" event practices.
  • Select a venue and service providers and negotiate prices.
  • Understand the lingo and the terminology for catering, AV, and more.
  • Work with a client, vendors, and volunteers effectively.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate

The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate includes approximately 12 hours of online study and 24 hours (4 days) in the classroom. Courses are packed with applied exercises and real-world case studies designed to simulate the steps you would take in a real-world Lean Six Sigma project, thereby improving your learning experience. As a Green Belt candidate you will need to complete all online and in class coursework and pass Emory's Green Belt exam with a minimum score of 75 percent.

Lean Six Sigma White Belt - Online

An introduction to Lean concepts and Six Sigma principles is vital for building a basic foundation for process improvement. Our course includes an overview of the DMAIC process Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control which is integral to a Lean Six Sigma roll-out but can also be used as a stand-alone component of process improvement. Students will be taught the roadmap for a successful improvement deployment as well as the key roles and responsibilities of a Lean Six Sigma framework. Learn to identify waste and variation in a process and increase stakeholder satisfaction through practical tools and techniques. The course will be delivered in the online, instructor led classroom with the exception of two online self-paced modules.

After this class, you will be able to:
  • Apply Six Sigma and Lean concepts
  • Identify the fundamentals of the DMAIC framework: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control
  • Use the roadmap for a successful improvement deployment
  • Construct the roles and responsibilities of a Lean Six Sigma framework
  • Formulate a plan for an improvement project
  • Demonstrate the identification of variation and waste in a process via an in-class simulation
  • Apply the basic steps to minimize waste and variation in a process

Students attending this certificate program should have a Bachelor’s degree and/or healthcare related experience. Examples include Registered Dietitian/Nutritionists, Fitness professionals & trainers, recent graduates in the Predictive Health minor program at Emory or anyone with a Bachelor’s degree contemplating a career change into a health profession. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt includes approximately 21 hours of online study and 56 hours (7 days) in the classroom. In addition, you are required to develop and complete an independent project based on a real business challenge. To obtain an Emory Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate, you will need to complete all online and in class coursework, an individual project and pass Emory's Black Belt exam with a minimum score of 75 percent.

Completion of a Green Belt Certificate is required prior to enrolling in the Black Belt Certificate. Students are also responsible for providing their own independent project.
