This introductory course is for beginners with little or no understanding of the Spanish language. You’ll quickly build a bank of practical Spanish phrases through listening, speaking, and reading about a variety of topics at the fundamental level. We focus on verbal communication and grammar basics. The textbook for this course is also used for Spanish 102 and 103. Limited to 25. After this class, you will be able to:
- use vocabulary associated with greetings and goodbyes, the classroom, and family
- talk about themselves and others in the present tense
- have a basic conversation in Spanish in the present tense
- ask and respond to questions in Spanish
- conjugate regular verbs in the present tense
- conjugate irregular verbs such as ‘ser,’ ‘estar,’ ‘venir,’ and ‘tener’ in the present tense

Spanish for Healthcare Professionals |
This course was created and designed to improve communication in clinical situations with patients whose native language is Spanish. The focus on the instruction will be to strengthen conversational skills, improve ability to take medical history and physical, conduct examinations and also give instructions to patients. This course will allow immediate practical application with their patients. The course is for the healthcare professional who has previous, but not extensive Spanish language training or experience. Tuition includes textbook.
After this class, you will be able to:
- Interview patients in Spanish
- Take medical history & physical
- Communicate directions in regards to prescriptions, and follow ups
- Develop a medical vocabulary that consists of over 500 words
- Physical exams with trained, Spanish-speaking simulated patients in a clinical setting
- Understand cultural differences concerning personal space, time, dynamics, food, and mainly medical care
